What the Kiwi gossip mags say
Kiwi celebs are feeling their age as newsreader Carly Flynn and Shortland Street star Adam Rickett turn 30 this week, with both showing signs of a midlife crisis.
Adam Rickett - who received police diversion after being charged with shoplifting in September last year - displays the more obvious hallmarks of a crisis.
The former Coronation Street actor shows off his "new love" in Woman's Weekly - a British-made motorbike he purchased after flagging plans to host a splash-out $20,000 birthday bash.
He'll be able to leave Pak N Save a lot quicker on that thing.
"When I first saw it, it was a weak-at-the-knees moment," Adam tells WW about his Triumph Speed Triple bike.
Some squats at the gym could really help build up those frail legs.
Adam tells WW he's "desperate" to get married and have children, saying: "I'm just waiting for the right Kiwi girl to come along and nab me."
Surely you've had enough "nabbing" to last you a while, Adam?
Another star turning 30 is Carly Flynn, but there's not a motorbike in sight at her birthday celebrations.
Instead, the TV3 breakfast newsreader is showing different signs of a crisis.
The former Nightline presenter has started meditating, gardening, attending pilates classes and eating organically. She's even installed a worm farm at home. Talk about a dirty girl.
"I feel fabulous," Carly tells Woman's Day about her new regime.
"I feel like I'm becoming the person I'm supposed to be and I'm really content. I feel calmer and more settled."
If we wanted hippies to read our news, Nandor Tanczos would have become a prime time anchor a long time ago.
Elsewhere, celebrity couple Shane Cortese and Nerida Jantti score the cover of a new-look New Idea with the uninviting headline, "Marriage and babies". That's a real page turner.
Luckily, their ultra-boring story - we already know about your backstage proposal, thanks, Shane - is jazzed up by unintentionally hilarious snaps of the couple's one-year-old son, Kees.
Unsurprisingly, Kees seems pretty worried about a pair of rocks he's about to throw down his gob, but his bike-riding lesson appears to be ruined by his over-enthusiastic dad straddling the handlebars.
Those trikes aren't made for big boys like you, Shane.
Other stars who hit the headlines this week:
*Craig Revel Horwood has admitted to working as a prostitute as a teenager. The Dancing with the Stars judge reveals the information in his upcoming biography, All Balls and Glitter: My Life. "I'm not ashamed of anything I've done in the past," Craig tells NI. Brendan Cole will no doubt be keen for a read.
*Singer Alanis Morissette used to suffer from anorexia. The Ironic singer says she struggled with the eating disorder after a record company executive criticised her weight. "He suggested I was too fat," Alanis tells WW. "Two days later, I was sticking my fingers down my throat." That's usually the reaction from people who hear your music, Alanis.
*Despite some great pics of Sacha Baron Cohen chasing down Arnold Schwarzenegger while dressed as his alter-ego Bruno and a bald Cameron Diaz in NI, the photo of the week award goes to WD and its snaps of Lindsay Lohan holding hands with her rumoured girlfriend Samantha Ronson. Who knew LiLo was engaged?
Finally, the quote of the week comes from Spice Girl Mel B, who proves she isn't arrogant in any way, shape or form by saying this: "I admit I look quite good in my underwear or bikini. I have boobs, a bum and a bit of a lazy eye, but I'm comfortable with myself."
A lazy eye, eh? Sure you're not related to Paris Hilton?
